Lanie Francis, MD is boarded in hematology, medical oncology, and internal medicine. She received an undergraduate degree from Brown University in Providence, R.I. and earned her medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Francis completed a residency in internal medicine at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC., and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Dr. Francis founded the Wellness and Integrative Oncology Team at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in 2014 as a way to enhance the level of care for cancer patients and their caregivers. Under her leadership, this innovative cancer medicine subspecialty has developed into a core element of patient centered and value-based care at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.
In addition, Dr. Francis serves as Associate Medical Director, Medical Oncology, UPMC International, advising on medical oncology in a variety of international venues and contexts including Italy and Ireland and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine and Research Instructor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Dr. Francis has been a member of professional organizations such as the American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Allegheny County Medical Society, and the society of Integrative Oncology. She is the winner of the Ladies Hospital Aid 2014 Innovation Award and the 2015 Leo Criep, MD Excellence in Patient Care Award.
Throughout her career, Dr. Francis has treated patients with a broad array of tumors including, but not limited to, breast, colon, and prostate cancer as well as hematologic issues including leukemia, lymphoma, blood clots, and anemia.
She lives in Pittsburgh with her husband, Dr. Elie Francis and their three boys, Oliver, Julian, and Alexander.
